From November 20th to November 22nd, the Ninth National University Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition was held at Southwest Jiaotong University. In this competition, students from College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering won 3 national first prizes and 3 national second prizes, ranking WZU Top 30 among the 678 colleges and universities participating in this competition.

This event is the highest-level one in the field of mechanical innovation for Chinese undergraduates. Students from a total of 678 colleges and universities participated in the competition, with 4719 works in the preliminaries. After fierce competition, 143 first prizes and 238 second prizes were determined. Six works of our university stood out. Three works including "Toilet Wheelchair for the Elderly", "Smart Milk Powder Dissolving Machine", and   "Home Medication Reminder Device" won the first prizes, and other three works including   "Auxiliary Device for Getting in and out of Bed for the Elderly", " Smart Wardrobe", and "Smart Drinking Machine" won the second prizes.

Toilet Wheelchair for the Elderly

To solve the problem of inconvenient mobility and difficulty in toileting for the elderly living alone, this toilet wheelchair is equipped with automatic navigation, height adjustment, assisted getting up, assisted taking off pants, and stool retraction. It can be used with a smart toilet to make life easier for the elderly.

Smart Milk Powder Dissolving Machine

Parents of newborns have to get up frequently during the night to feed the baby with dissolved milk powder, which seriously affects their sleep quality. This intelligent milk dissolving machine has functions such as automatic milk powder dissolving, automatic delivery of milk bottles, intelligent control, and automatic disinfection. Parents only need one-click control through the APP in the phone, and a few minutes later, the delivery cart with intelligent navigation will transport the milk bottles to the bed.

Home Medication Reminder Device

Elderly people with memory loss are easy to forget to take medicines at home. This medication reminder device has the function of medication reminder, automatic medicine dispensing, etc. It is not only suitable for dispensing plate-shaped medicines and bottled medicines, but also adaptable to realize the opening and intubation of oral liquid. When it is time to take the medicine, the device can collect all kinds of medicines that need to be taken according to the specified dosage into the storage box, and the elderly can take it.

Auxiliary Device for Getting in and out of Bed for the Elderly

The elderly often has difficulty in getting in and out of bed. Hence, the device with functions of height adjustment, assisted leg raising, assisted getting up, and translational push can effectively make their life more convenient via voice control or button remote control.

Smart Wardrobe

Smart wardrobe is a brand-new smart home product. It mainly aims to solve the problems of clothes stacking, storing and matching in daily life. The user can send orders through the control panel.

Smart Drinking Machine

Project members: Lin Yaojie, Liang Jiawei, Li Jiajun

Instructors: Li Zhenzhe, Wang Chenghu

When the user finishes drinking the water in his cup, he puts the cup on the smart detection table in front of him, and the detection table can detect whether there is water left in the cup. If there is no water, the mechanical arm will grab the cup and put it in front of the automatic drinking machine. Then the cup refilled with water will be placed in front of the user.
